I find freedom in rising early in the morning and heading out to my favourite spots around the Boundary area. Whether the Kettle River, Jewel Lake or the North Fork loop. Having lived in Grand Forks most of my life I find such comfort from the familiar places my camera takes me. Radiant Reflections is a series of my favourite pictures I’ve taken throughout the last five years. I find such solitude and peace awaiting the moment when the light is at it’s peak radiance. Photography for me is a study of the seasons, knowing when to go to certain places to find the ethereal lighting, colours, textures and composition. So it is the adventure, the awe inspiring moments when I’m caught speechless by natures magic. Like floating in my kayak on Jewel Lake in the morning mist and meeting with the loons. Watching them rise from the water in defense of the call they heard in the distance. Or going back to the same places along the Kettle River and always being mesmerized by how different each sunrise can be. Radiant Reflections shines a light on our environment and how important it is to our well-being. I so appreciate the grasslands, the mountains, the rivers the oasis of farmland. If, even for a moment, I can pause and truly recognize how precious it is to live in this place—if I can offer a glimpse into the raw honesty of nature and the animals we share our life with—then I feel I’ve shared something meaningful. I’ve connected with others and perhaps given them the same sense of the joy, peace and serenity that I feel.
